What a real park should be

12 Sep

A few times a month, I get together with a bunch of my friends for our Moms Group.  Typically, we meet at a park and chat while our kids make endless laps on the slides.  Now don’t get me wrong, those times are great.  However, don’t you ever feel like you just need a little more.  A park that would do more than just make your kids giggle and take a good nap later.  Something to make your kids think.  Yep, call me crazy, but that’s what I was thinking about this week.  (Probably due in large part to reading Last Child in the Woods right now).  When one of my friends told me about this park, I immediately jumped on it and scheduled our Moms Group to head there this week.

The dream park is Discovery Park in Golden CO.  Here are some of the highlights from the park:

Giant dinosaur skeletons to play on and around

Critters to discover

A rock wall to scramble

A myriad of dinosaur bones to uncover

A grass maze to explore

The kids were crazy about the place which led to lots of cheesy smiles.
The kids absolutely loved this park.  They kept talking about their discoveries and adventures at the park.  Although there was not much “playground” type of play, they didn’t skip a beat and jumped right in exploring.  This park is a total must if you’re in the Denver area.  (note, this park is small, but so worth it)

What a great park! That book sounds fascinating. I totally agree with the author’s ideas. I will have to check it out.

How is it possible that we missed this park?? What a shame! Time for another trip, it’s fall now and time for some good old rock climbing in CO!
